Season 2 - European Poker Tour
With Season 1 a huge success, John Duthie increased the minimum buy-ins for Season 2 to €4,000. The hopes for this EPT season were high and organizers were expecting a huge turnout. Sure enough, Season 2 received participation from 325 players as against 227 in Season 1. However, such a large attendance left both the organizers as well as the players stumped with many players unable to secure seats leaving in its wake chaos in the very first stop of the tour at Barcelona. It led Duthie to rethink the structure towards a better-organized approach for the ensuing seasons. The Grand Final held in Monte Carlo with 211 players was the biggest poker tournament ever to be held in Europe. All the European Poker Tour Season 2 events were broadcasted to millions of television worldwide. The popular channels to telecast these shows were Five TV in the UK and Eurosport across Europe.
The poker tournaments in the EPT Season 2 were once again held in some of the most beautiful, scenic and historical locales of Europe. These cities were Barcelona, London, Baden, Dublin, Copenhagen, Deauville and Monte Carlo.
